Welcome to Semere Solomon

Semere Solomon is an Eritrean author and international development practitioner whose work explores Eritrea’s independence struggle, post-independence governance, political transition, and prospects for national reconstruction. A participant in the struggle for Eritrea’s independence, he subsequently served in the country’s Ministry of Education before pursuing a career in international development and humanitarian assistance.

Semere has more than three decades of experience in national and international development, including work associated with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the United Nations, and the Government of Eritrea. His professional experience spans Africa, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Central Asia.

His books include Eritrea’s Hard-Won Independence and Unmet Expectations: From the Perspective of a Veteran Freedom Fighter, Renewing the Promise: A New Vision for Eritrea, Prospects for Political Transition in Eritrea: Translating Aspirations into Reality. Through historical reflection, political analysis, and development-oriented thinking, his writing examines the gap between the aspirations of independence and the realities of post-independence governance. He is also engaged in exploring the institutional, constitutional, and socioeconomic questions involved in Eritrea’s possible political transition and national renewal.
